Jr. Grads - Minor Bantam AA - Tournament Finalists

The Cumberland Jr Grads Minor Bantam AA team travelled to Buffalo this past weekend to take part in the Harbor Center Cup.
 
The tournament had 16 teams participating spanning Ontario and the North-Eastern United States.
 
The Minor Bantam AA team went undefeated in round-robin play which placed them tied for first overall and it came down to a tie breaker which was best Goals Against Average to finish first overall.
 
The semi-final game had the Jr Grads play the Vaughn Panthers in a game that went to double overtime and then into a shootout. Fortunately Cumberland won with a 2-1 shootout victory and advanced to the finals.
 
The finals put the Jr Grads up against the Michigan Ice Hawks who had also won their round robin pool.
 
The Jr Grads scored early to take a 1-0 lead in the first period. Shortly after they had a goal disallowed on a supposed high-stick which would have put them up 2-0. Late in the third period the Ice Hawks scored twice in the final three minutes to go up 2-1. With less than a 1:30 left in the game the Jr Grads pulled their goalie to get the extra attacker on the ice and scored to tied it with 13 seconds left in the game.
 
The game continued into the first overtime of 4 on 4 which settled nothing and led both teams into the second overtime of 3 on 3. With 2:24 left in the second overtime the Ice Hawks scored to win the Championship game with a final score of 3-2.
