Help out northern communities by donating gently used hockey equipment.

Hockey and sporting gear drive for Northern communities

As you know, the cost of sporting equipment, and in particular hockey gear, can be prohibitive for many families. For youth in many Northern communities, the ability to participate in sports is often limited by their access to equipment.

On March 6th, a NAV CANADA flight inspection aircraft will be conducting northern flight tests related to the Aireon service and will be travelling through Churchill, Iqaluit and Whitehorse. We would like to take advantage of the fact that there is cargo space on the aircraft for these test flights to provide donations of sporting equipment to youth in these communities in collaboration with local site staff and youth services groups.

We are looking for donations of new/gently used hockey gear or other sporting equipment for both boys and girls in all age groups. Suggestions include:
Hockey bags Sticks and tape
Skates Gloves
Helmets Pads and protective gear
Jerseys and socks Goalie equipment
Any soccer equipment and balls

The aircraft has space available for up to 40 duffle bags of equipment.  So please feel free to reach out to your friends, family or local hockey organizations you may be involved with for donations as well. Items should be clean and in good condition for safety reasons.

Donations can be dropped off at each of the Ottawa sites until March 1.
