The Ottawa Mission and Jr. Grads Minor Midget B

2018-12-13

Un geste de partage de la part des joueurs et des entraîneurs

The Cumberland Jr. Grads Minor Midget B team spent the afternoon at The Ottawa Mission to learn more about homelessness in our city and the about the work that The Ottawa Mission does to help people get back on their feet. It was a very humbling experience and I believe the boys get a sense of just how lucky they are to have such a great supporting cast of family, friends & community to help them through life. They were able to see first-hand and listen to stories of how that is not the case for everyone. They were educated on how homelessness is not just what you see on a streets of downtown and how difficult it is for some to make ends meet each month on minimum wage or how easy it is to lose everything in a flash.

I am very proud of our team, their focus and attitude and during the visit to the Ottawa mission. They represented the Cumberland Jr. Grads extremely well and we learned how The Ottawa Mission provides health services, including primary care, mental health and addiction treatment programs, hospice care, and dental services, as well as educational support and job training, spiritual care, and men’s clothing to thousands in need in our community.  They got a brief look at how the staff and volunteers help serve up to 1300 meals each day, house over 230 people per night, and how they help people get back on their feet and supply them with the tools to succeed and rebuilt their lives.

I am happy to say with the Boys not only donated their time but some of their of personal money to support The Ottawa Mission, we supplied and produced snack bags with inspirational notes and donated enough funds to supply over 100 meals to those less fortunate. A great team building day all around which was topped off with a hard earned 3-0 win later that night in Carleton Place!!

Une belle journée d'esprit d'équipe qui s'est terminée par une victoire de 3-0 dans la soirée contre Carleton Place.

Go Grads Go!
