Dear Parents and Players,
Welcome to the 2019-2020 season. My name is Philippe Cossette and I am looking forward to being the head coach of the Cumberland Jr. Grads Major Pee-wee B team this season! I want to take this opportunity to outline my coaching philosophy, expectations, and provide important information for this upcoming season.
My primary goal is to develop players to their maximum potential both ON and OFF the ice and to prepare them for their next level of play. In addition to player development, we will consistently champion and harbour life skills of teamwork, responsibility, accountability, communication, and leadership. We will foster and model concepts of fair play, competition, cooperation, respect for teammates, opponents, coaches, parents and officials. All these attributes will lead to building self-confidence, and having FUN.
Practices will be structured, high tempo and designed in accordance with our season plan. We will further develop technical skills, individual tactics, position specifics, and team play. The fundamentals of skating, passing, and shooting will be the foundation of our success. Hard work, a willingness to learn and a positive attitude will be expected every practice and every game. Dividends for hard work and pushing beyond comfort zones will be evident as the season progresses.
Competitive hockey programs demand a high-level of commitment from everyone involved with the team. Team activities will include games, practices, development ice, dryland, tournaments, and social events. The coaching staff expects that the TEAM be a priority during the season. Family and school commitments come first however; parents and players are to communicate with the coach to give sufficient notice for foreseeable and justified absences.
Some additional information for the 2019-2020 Cumberland Jr. Grads Major Peewee B Team:
- Player Fees – Upon selection to the team, association registration fees will be transferred back to the team. Additionally, parents can expect team fees of $1500 per family, paid over 3 instalments. With that said, our team will explore all ways to reduce the family fees via sponsorships, fundraising (team and individual), etc. For reference, families received substantial refunds at the end of last season – but this will require effort from all.
- Tournaments for this upcoming season:
- 5th Annual Capital Volunteer Cup – Richcraft, October 27-29
- Bradford Blue and Gold – Bradford ON, Nov. 14-17
- Stittsville Mid Season Showdown – Bell Sensplex, Nov. 29 - Dec. 1
- Tournoi Pee-wee Anjou (Montreal) January 27-30, 2020
I wish all players the best in tryouts. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. Filk7@hotmail.com
