Dear Parents and Players,
Welcome to the 2019-2020 Cumberland Jr Grads Minor Midget AA season!
My name is Danny Faust. I have been selected to be the coach of the 2019-2020 Minor Midget AA team this year. As this is my first coaching job at this level, I am looking forward to having a fun and successful season. With hard work, dedication and commitment from everyone, we can overcome any challenges or obstacles that we face as a team and strive to compete every night. I want to outline and explain a little more about me, my philosophy and expectations for this upcoming season.
Background
I have been involved in hockey for over 40 years. I played competitive minor hockey throughout my younger years, along with 2 years of Junior hockey. After minor hockey I continued to play at a high level of hockey in senior and adult leagues. To stay involved in minor hockey, I became a referee and achieved a level 3 certification where I refereed all levels of hockey, including Junior and University and continue to referee all levels of adult recreational hockey. I have coached various sports other than hockey over the years, which has allowed me to learn and develop different skills. With my work ethic, commitment, dedication and hard work, I will bring all my skills and hockey knowledge to the team.
Philosophy
My focus and primary objectives will be very simple. I will tap into each players skill set and utilize those skills to keep them and the team competitive, while working with each player to help them improve to a level they are comfortable with. With my background and training in Law Enforcement and the Canadian Forces, I will stress the importance of respect, teamwork, communication and leadership. I will work to develop a set of skills that will build self-confidence and ability to understand the importance of individual strengths while promoting a positive team environment on and off the ice.
I will reward hard work, commitment and dedication while incorporating discipline where and when needed. As the season progresses, practices will be prepared and organized based on observations made by team staff during games to make sure we a ready to compete every night.
Tryouts and Evaluations
Minor Midget AA tryouts are scheduled to occur in early September. All tryout information will be posted on the association’s website. All evaluations will be conducted by independent elevators, coaches and overseen by the Cumberland Jr Grads executive.
ALL players should show up at tryouts mentally and physically ready to compete and work hard. In addition to hockey fundamentals and hockey sense, I am looking to build a team culture that is not solely based on skill but also hard work, leadership and discipline.
Releases will occur after the second tryout game and each subsequent game until the team has been selected.
Players are reminded to bring their own water bottles.
Commitment
As with competitive sports programs, a high level of commitment is expected from everyone involved with the team. There will be on average 3-4 team sessions per week. This will include practices, games, and development sessions. Fees are expected to be approximately $1500.00 (to be discussed/confirmed) over and above the Cumberland Minor Hockey Association registration and Jr Grads tryout fees. Involvement from players and families will be expected for all team events and any fundraising activities.
Once the team has been finalized, a parent's meeting will be held to provide additional details on the up-coming season.
