Coach Welcome Message
Jr Grads – Minor Peewee B – Blue

Welcome to the 2018/19 hockey season. My name is Paul Hamon, and I am honoured to be the head coach of the Cumberland Jr. Grads Minor Peewee B Team.

Welcome to the 2018/19 hockey season.  My name is Paul Hamon, and I am honored to be the head coach of the Cumberland Jr. Grads Minor Peewee B team.  I want to take this opportunity to tell you a bit about my background and philosophy, as well as the expected time commitment, fees, tournaments and tryout process associated with the Minor Peewee B Jr. Grads.

Background
This will be my Third year coaching a Cumberland Jr Grads team, as I coached the Minor and Major Atom B teams the last two years.  In previous years, I have been an assistant coach, trainer and manager for novice and IP teams.

Philosophy
Hockey is a big part of our kids lives and as such hockey is life.  I believe that through hockey our kids learn great values such as hard work, working with a team, standing up for their teammates, being accountable, having responsibilities, respecting other teams, officials, coaches and their own teammates. Through hockey they will learn to win honourably and loose graciously.  My coaching philosophy is to develop our kids for LTAD (learn term athletic development) and for life.  I will work hard to develop a winning strategy by establishing a strong work ethic and team work. These 2 common themes will allow the players to have fun, develop their core hockey skills, and enjoy the camaraderie that team work brings not only to sport but to their everyday lives. I believe that it is important that all members on the team enjoy a sense of belonging and that their role on the team is as important as the next. I feel that coaching is about mentoring and allowing our players to learn and develop in a comfortable setting while working as hard as they can. I am firm and assertive but also approachable and respectful.

Time Commitment and Fees
Players should expect to be on the ice approximately four to five times per week for practices, games and skill development sessions.  Occasional off-ice team-building sessions and training sessions will be added.  Players and parents are also expected to participate in fund raising and team events.

A dress code, including tracksuits and long sleeve mock neck shirt, is mandatory for all Grads teams.  In addition, Grads players must wear blue helmets, pants (or pant shell) and gloves.  A blue hockey bag is also required.  Team fees will be $1,500 per player.  These fees will cover tournament registration fees, ice times, referees, skill development, off-ice sessions and social activities.  These fees can be significantly reduced through fundraising activities and sponsorships.

Tournaments
We will be taking part in Three tournaments this coming season

1.     Belleville Jr Bulls Pre-Season Tilt, Sept 27th to Sept 30th.
2.     5th Annual Capital Volunteer Cumberland Jr. Grads Tournament, Oct 26th to the 28th.
3.     Oshawa Hockeyfest 2018, Dec 6th to Dec 9th

Tryouts & Evaluations
Our tryouts run from the 7th to the 12th of September inclusively.  They consist of 1 skills session, 1 intersquad games, and 3 exhibition games.  Several Grads coaches and independent evaluators will assist me in the selection process of this team.  These evaluators will be sitting away from all parents; please do not approach them under any circumstance to discuss your child’s performance. In addition to superior hockey skills, such as skating, puck control, shooting and passing, I am looking for players that demonstrate the characteristics of hard work and determination, and those that demonstrate a positive attitude and good sportsmanship.

Additional tryout information is available at http://cumberlandminorhockey.ca/.

If you have any questions, I can be reached at paulhamon@sapiencefinancial.ca

Good luck to all the players.
